I finally completed my Fashion Institute of Technology admission essay after about my third draft. Can someone just give me feedback.

As I sit back, watching the two-hour Real World Casting Special in my living room a few years ago, I thought to myself “this is exactly what i want to do”. Before this special aired, I never thought about the hard work that goes into casting people for shows. Then I started thinking about my life as a dancer. Did I really want to throw away the dedication I had towards training my body so that I can ultimately have a career in performing arts? So many thoughts overflowed my mind. I analyzed myself and came to the conclusion that as much as i love to dance, I didn’t want to be a performer. I felt like I didn’t belong in the limelight. I was now fascinated with the process of finding someone for a certain project.

When I came to this realization, I was only about 15 years old. I continued to dance as a side thing until I was old enough to actually do something to start my long term goal. As soon as I turned 17 years old, I took initiative and contacted many casting directors and agencies. To my surprise, I got a lot of feedback. There was one response in particular that said to study advertising and marketing. I am aware that many schools provide this major, but i don’t just want to settle for any school. As a New York City native, the appeal of having close access to the advertising and marketing/media industry is certainly a part of my interest at The Fashion Institute of Technology. FIT has the talent that I need to be surrounded by in order to grow.

Coming from a performing arts background, I have the creativity to accomplish many great things at FIT. I can visualize concepts in my mind and bring them to life. “Too whom much is given, much is required.” Throughout my entire junior high school experience, administrators kept stressing this motto. It carried on with me all through high school and gave me much inspiration. There are always roadblocks, but because of my positive outlook, I have learned to surpass them and persevere.

I am a perfect candidate for FIT because of my determination, dedication and creativity. I know I will be able to succeed as an advertising and marketing communications major due to my work ethic. I am ready to follow through with my goals, and am looking forward to accomplishing my degree at The Fashion Institute of Technology.

It was at the the end of a day-long sales training program with a group when one of the business owners piped up, “What we need are some gay guys to sell our merchandise.” She was asked, “Why specifically gay men?”

She answered, “Because when we visited stores yesterday in the City, they were out and willing to tell anyone in a matter-of-fact way. They were personable, fun, you just wanted to buy from them.” I understood from her descriptions of several of these guys why she would want them to work for her.

Expressive gays tend to be extroverts who occasionally tend to make their private business public and sharing information without boundaries. The Expressive is the Grasshopper living for today. Recognized by customers for their uniqueness. Again, their enthusiasm and energy are the spark plugs for your team.

Their enthusiasm can make them feel a bit invincible at times; and can overwhelm Analyticals who want “just the facts.”

Expressive personalities have to process externally while Driver and Analytical personalities don’t. The downside to an Expressives’ natural inclination to show multiple possibilities might require the customer to bring them back to the product the customer is considering, not all of the other possibilities. Their natural enthusiasm can also inflate products’ benefits without devoting time to adequately explaining why.

But I can see how it could easily be confused. An Expressive guy comes out, has to deal with the social ramifications and decide he’s OK with it. Because of coming through that process, there is no baggage so he is free to let himself be open to meeting others. I am okay with me being me. But will the boss and the world be okay with the new me?

That all stems from the basic Expressive personality. In other words, what this owner identified was the personality type that happened to be gay; not a gay person. With me?

The Expressives I think are the most challenging of all the personalities. Their very energy is what keeps many from hiring them. Their creativity, individualism and self-assuredness can be threatening. And when you’re trying to teach them a rigid process your Analtyical employees can easily take to, this personality will constantly challenge why they have to do it “that way.” They will complain their creativity is being stifled – they feel like robots.

What we have to remember is the Expressive is the spark-plug to your crew. They are the one that adds color, excitement and fun.

Is that a gay thing? Or a sales thing?

Should you recruit gay men to sell your stuff? Do yo think business people wold buy6 products and services from a gay guy?

Do women tend to trust gay guys who are expressive? Yes?

You don’t need a lot of Expressives on your sales force but at least one keeps things interesting and fun for your crew and your customers.

My question is selling traditional dry and boring products like insurance, health,Long Term Care in the home. with my french nails, arched brows, sparkly personality do I you think it will work for me or that I am living in a fools paradise and will be received with a thundering thud.

I am not the same as I was a year ago ( In am open now, wasn’t then and there have been hormonal changes too) and I want to reenter the workplace as I am not as I was. What do you think, be nice but be honest. Work places tend to be conservative and traditional and some industries even more so. Help me please !!! LOL

Really some thoughtful advice will be appreciated.

basically i just need the coding to make a website that includes changing the font size… the font type….. the font color…. and the backround color…. this is the paper that i need coding for:

                                 Webmaster Roles

Webmaster, not only is it a cool title for a job, but its also a fun one! Before I can explain what would be most enjoyable to me, I should probably explain exactly what a Webmaster is. Webmasters do a variety of things, depending on certain aspects. When a Webmaster is in a smaller company, they tend to do most of the work. As opposed to a larger company where he would be assigned and specialized in certain things. A webmaster is typically a person who has a strong design back round and knows a good deal about things like graphics design and writing. The more “technical” type of webmaster runs servers by writing scripts that are necessary for a website.

Responsibilities that would generally belong to a Webmaster are: HTML Authoring, CGI Scripting, Basic Graphic Design Capability, Internet Awareness, General UNIX and PC (MS-WINDOWS) Awareness Basic TCP/IP and Networking, Graphic Design Skills, Customer Awareness, and WWW Serving Configuration.

Webmasters are generally viewed as leaders within companies and are required to be taking the lead and make sure everything is running smoothly, they’re like a type of manager. Webmasters have to be aware at all times what their client is looking for, and wants in a website. They have to make sure that the websites that they are creating are enjoyable to look at, and something that someone would be interested in looking at. Webmasters of course also need to be technical geniuses and be able to do coding and things easily.

I believe at being a webmaster would be a thoroughly enjoyable job. Personally, i would very much enjoy having a job like this that allows ideas to flow, and the ability to use creativity. You would get the pleasure of incorporating your own ideas into the finished product of the company. You can truly take enjoyment in your work knowing everything that you accomplished by doing this. If you put effort into it you can really make it look good and feel that sense of accomplishment. I believe that even the training necessary to building up to be a webmaster would be enjoyable. I’ve always found it very interesting looking at the codings and things that go into designing a website and things like that.

So, to wrap things up, I would enjoy having the leadership, creativity, and freedom that a webmaster gets to have with his job. Understanding how the coding on a website that makes things run has always been a subject that was very interesting to me. Who knows?

the question is : Why do you want to attend Pratt and what do you hope to accomplish from your education?

Every individual has a destiny and I know my destiny will lead me to become a successful clothing designer. Since childhood, I have been inspired by art. While I have never had any training in art, as a child I expressed a natural talent in drawing. At the age of four, I began drawing Japanese animation and painting landscape art. My family noticed my natural talent in art and began to support and nurture my growth. I remember watching fashion runway show on television for a full three hours. I was so inspired by the beautifully crafted fashions, that I grabbed a pad of paper and started sketching on the spot! Since watching my first fashion runaway, I began to create and synthesize clothing that is inspired by the natural and manmade environments. I produced an abundance of sketches and realized that I can make a career with the use of my sketches. One of my seventh grade teacher noticed a particular drawing and she recommended that I go to the Pratt Institute. I researched information about this school and was instantly amazed by the classes in fashion design offered to undergraduates. When I began attending the High School for Arts & Business, I finally took my first art class. I had wonderful art teachers, Mr. Serra and Mr. Fee , who taught printmaking, drawing, commercial arts, painting and photography. I showed them my latest drawings from eighth grade, and they were astonished by my creativity. They were surprised that I could draw since I had never taken an art class before. My teachers taught me many techniques to improve my drawing skills in creating garments for fashion design. I have taken many other classes that have expanded my interest in the art of fashion design such as Advance Placement Art History and Portfolio and Photography.
My art teacher Mr. Serra, a Pratt Institute graduate in 1970, has persuade me as well to go to Pratt Institute because he says this school has the education I need for fashion design and I will be an excellent and influential student for Pratt.
The history of fashion and culture have inspired my interest to create designs that combine the past and present. My fashion designs are diverse palette of styles in business, punk, urban, preppy and casual attire. Currently my focus and target audience is fashion for teens through their early thirties. As a prospective student at Pratt Institute, I hope to learn new techniques and skills that will enhance my knowledge in seeing what the fashion world is all about. Also I can see myself developing the confidence and the hard work it will take to put together a piece of clothing. The schools high diversity and artistic environment will allow to me grow into a field of creativity and experiences. It is close to my home town so I would not feel homesick and focus better in my academics. If I am granted the opportunity to be accepted to Pratt Institute, I would expand my understanding of different styles and ages to create fashion that is both stylish, comfortable and complimentary to every body type.
Fashion is a never ending cycle and I would love to be a part of it, even if I have to go through a mix of challenges and rejections. I know what I am capable of doing and giving up is not an option. To me, fashion has been my dream and I will never stop loving to create outfits and Pratt Institute can aid me to become a successful fashion designer.
