You may have what's called Maladaptive Daydreaming. It's a little understood condition that causes obsessive daydreaming. Take a look at this article:

If the person in that article sounds like you, that may be your problem. I also have this problem; I've suffered with it for many years.
References :
Creativity comes to fruition and is expressed when the person is strongly motivated to do so.

The most creative geniuses of our times have come from all spectrum's of the thinking mind and behavioral pattern.

There is no hard and fast rule as to what leads to the creative process other than a driving need to express that which you feel, yearn for, or dream of.

Having confidence in your self to do so is a main requirement.
After all you do it for yourself and not for the Kudos.
If you begin an endeavor with the intent to acquire fame and recognition then you set yourself up to fail or at least you can do.
It most often is generated by a selfish need/drive to bring forth the "creation" it is only as it takes form that you can think that maybe you might want to share it with others

Being passionate about what it is that you want to do or achieve is the main drive and the rest will logically follow.
