Hi,
Patent laws does not restrain creativity and Innovation, where it allows the inventor to create more innovative solutions.
How?
Patent system allows the inventor to have monopoly for certain period on their patented products/solutions, so that he gets incentive to market his product and reinvest on his research to come up with more innovative solutions.
Hope it clarifies you.

Well is not the inventor or designer entitled to some recompense for his hard work , creativeness etc.. Otherwise what is the point? No it would stifle things as there would be no point

I agree with the person above, if you do create something that’s already been patented then you didn’t create anything….

It’s hardly restraining creativity – it’s more motivating it. Most people, as we’ve learned from many failed Marxist models, are motivated by money. Companies strive to create a new medicine, for example, because they know the ‘recipe’ can’t be used by any other company due to patent laws. This allows the company who created the drug to re-coop the cost of the creation of the drug and to also make a profit. Would you work hard for no profit? Patent laws insure that creativity and innovation are secure and can be shared without huge losses to the person who invented the product.

Patent laws were put in place so that those who invented things could profit form their inventions. Without such laws there is little reason to invent things because all the profit will be made by those that make the copies. Progress would be stopped or reduced without patent laws.
This does not apply to the few things that are hard to copy such as the exact method to make certain drugs.
