Do you think it is wrong to hold back creativity?

I consider myself fairly creative and I like to think outside the box a lot.
I always want to try new things, reinvent things and have things that are different from everyone else.
It drives me nuts when I see my friends not think for themselves and want to mimic what I do. It is not so much the "copying" that bothers me it is that they don’t try to channel any creativity for themselves. Am I reading into it too much or is this normal?

You should feel flattered that your friends look to you for leadership. Clearly, you’ve got good ideas — maybe it’s a sign you should start your own company someday.

If it bothers you, you could always try asking your friends for their ideas before contributing your own. Otherwise, just think of yourself as a trendsetter and don’t worry about it.

What Happened to the Innovation and Creativity in MUSIC…???

now everybody’s trying to be "edgy" but they have like 3 stylist styling them to look punk…meanwhile the punks created their look on their own.

(I’m tired of watching American Idol and seeing these tacky singers with their punk hairdoos…but singing pop bull***t)

they have other people writing the songs … other people playing the music…other people dressing them and telling then how to sound.

it’s pretty pathetic.

dude…. you are 100% right. You want to know what happened it ? MONEY. I’d say money is 70% of the reason why all this happened.

Some of it can be attributed to today’s ‘quick-fix’ society not having the attention span and being to cynical to listen to proper music.

Today just about anything will be put on the radio or TV if it’ll attract money or sex. Like you said it’s really pathetic. Art is in really bad shape these days.

What are some good tipes to thinking of creative story ideas?

Hello 100% Me! It’s quite easy to come up with ideas. I’m going to give you a few simple tips to help you come up with a great idea for a story.

Take inspiration from many things, such as news stories you’ve heard of, videos you’ve seen on YouTube, stories your friends have told you, your own personal experiences with things, and so on. It’s always good to get ideas from real life, as long as you make it your own. There’s nothing wrong with doing that, as long as you make it original.

If you want to write a drama, for example, find drama stories, and then draw inspiration from that. I’ve drawn inspiration from other stories I’ve written. IMPORTANT NOTE: Make it your own! Tweak it just a little, so that you aren’t completely copying the original author’s idea. There is nothing wrong with drawing ideas from other pieces of literature, but you MUST, MUST, MUST originalize it, and cite the author.

What I do is keep a small notebook on me at all times, because you never know when an idea will pop into your head. An idea can come to you any time, such as when you’re on the train, walking through the park, or on an airplane, and you might not have anywhere to log the idea. If you have a notebook and pen or pencil on hand, you are always close to something where you can log everything that comes from your mind.

You might not want them, but I’m going to give you tips on transferring your ideas from your mind to the paper or computer:
1. If you’re a newer writer, start with a very short story, between one and two pages. It’s best to start small, in my personal experience. If you jump right into a book, it can be a bit overwhelming to you. Some of the greatest writers started with short stories.
2. Draw out where you want the story to go. Write the beginning or end first, and from where you are, draw it out from there. Plan beforehand on a piece of paper if need be. That way, you have some idea of where you want the story to go.
3. Make your characters (if there are any) before you begin writing. I find it helps to know who my characters are before I write, for I get some idea of what they like, what they don’t like, and so on, and that can help in the long run.

I hope these tips guide you well. Good luck with your writing!
